Introducing Microbix LumiSort Sexed Semen at the World Ag Expo was an amazing experience!
Here are a few quick observations that I noticed:
- The interest that dairymen have in LumiSort is amazing.
- Dairymen all over the world wanting to do trials on LumiSort
- Dairymen are thinking of how to manage LumiSort already
- The encouragement other studs gave me to proceed took me of guard
- We will run out of semen because of demand when LumiSort is released
- Need to take care of current customers FIRST when this technology is in the field
More info to come soon. Just wanted to get this out while it was fresh on my mind!

What you need to do to enjoy the “real” ride is start buying Microbix stock. Its about to become number one in the $3 BILLION dollar sexed semen market and it only trades at $0.29 cents per share. It trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker MBX. We should be looking at a $15.00 – $20.00 stock price on Lumisort alone not to mention the other 2 pipeline products that are about to hit the market. That’s in addition to its “core” virology business that is profitable and cash flow positive. They aren’t going to get any cheaper boys and girls.

I agree! The market is huge and the risk is very low! Bulls are breaking out of the fence on this one!

The entire AI industry isn’t close to $3billion. Exaggeration erodes character. People invest in character.

Jamie, how big is the AI industry world wide? I would say it all depends on the price of this new technology and also if it can be used in other species! $3 Billion is a lot of cash! Thanks for bringing this up.

Not sure how they arrive at $3Billion. We know that Lumisort will be at a premium price and that over 90% of the semen collected will be sexed and usable. Current methods, the lion’s shares is unusable and goes down the drain. I’m sure they could justify their figures if you asked. I was just simply quoting from their recent press release:
“Microbix is in advanced discussions with a number of strategic partners to fund the final development and commercialization steps of LumiSort technology, which has no regulatory barriers to market entry. Microbix has confirmed a market potential for LumiSort that will rise in excess of $3 billion with this effective semen sexing technology. Microbix expects to become market leader by revolutionizing practices in the livestock artificial insemination industry within three years of launch.”

The following was found in an interview MBX had with BioTuesday which suggests how they arrive at $3Billion…….
“Microbix already has signed term sheet agreements with 10 of the 40 global companies that sell sexed semen in what is known as “straws,” who represent about 40 million straws a year.
“Our deal will give us $1 per straw as a technology fee for every straw they sell and a 15% royalty on the selling price of each straw, which will be another $3 or so for us,” Mr. Casselli says.
“Semen on its own is a $1.5 billion a year business globally, which could double if all of the straws of semen sold today convert to sex semen,” he predicts. “We expect LumiSort will capture a significant share of this expanded market within five years.”

Are there any actual results? remember monsanto released “Decisive” sexed semen process and that was a bust. it will have to produce better conception rates, and greater quantities at lower cost to have a greater impact on the sexed semen industry. I hope it comes true.

There are no results yet. And yes I do remember Monsanto sexed semen mess. There is no guarantee that this will work, but I have confidence in the technology. Results should be in sometime early 2013.

Inguran LLC’s “Frozen Sperm X/Y” patent falls in Europe. Bad news for Inguran. Great news for MBX Lumisort technology. Another cogg in the wheel in place.

Dear sirs, we have an AI center in Argentina, located at 80 km from Buenos Aires. At the same premises we have an ET center and laboratories for in vitro fertilization. We are interested in Lumisort technology as representative or as sexed semen laboratory associated to Microbix. Please let us know about your conditions. Sincerely, Carlos Munar

Microbix granted New U.S. Patent on Lumisort
LumiSort® intellectual property portfolio continues to expand
TORONTO , May 1, 2013 /CNW/ – Microbix Biosystems Inc. (MBX.TO), a biotechnology company developing innovative biological products and technologies including LumiSort®, a novel sperm sexing technology for the global livestock industry, has been notified by the United States Patent and Trademark Office that its application for a new patent on LumiSort technology has been allowed in the United States . The patent is expected to issue within the next few weeks.
Microbix’ Lumisort technology is set to address the $1.5 billion artificial insemination market, with the potential to grow that market by 100%. LumiSort is a next-generation instrument-based (cytometric) technology for the preparation of sex-selected sperm cell preparations that will provide the artificial insemination industry with a 3-fold increase in sperm cell yield and a 10-fold increase in the speed of production, while increasing the fertility of the sexed sperm cell product.
The most recent patent application, U.S.S.N. 13/214,699, was filed in August 2011 as part of Microbix’ continuing program to develop intellectual property for the LumiSort sperm sexing instrument and process.
Vaughn Embro-Pantalony, Chief Executive Officer commented, “LumiSort is a completely new way to approach sperm sexing, with significant advantages for the livestock industry that will overtake existing, outdated methods. We are committed to developing both our LumiSort instrument, and our intellectual property portfolio, leading to the allowance of this important second U.S. patent application with additional patent applications pending. Microbix’ patents underpin shareholder value in the LumiSort investment and provide a solid basis of exclusivity going forward.”
Further information, including an animated video, on LumiSort technology is available at http://lumisort.com.
